Under 15s Hold Table Topping Belles

Scarborough Ladies Under 15s continued their fine start to the season with a battling 2-2 draw at table topping Brayton Belles.

The visitors started brightly with Lydia Hanson and Beth Metcalfe a continual annoyance to the home defence, and the midfield trio of Khyarna Foster, Lauren Corner and Eden Sellers driving the team forward at every opportunity. However Brayton were not top of the league by accident, and their neat attacking football meant the Scarborough defence had to be at their best to repel the danger, until eventually the Belles broke the deadlock. They could have doubled their lead soon after, but Erin Nicholson in the Scarborough goal saved brilliantly, tipping a shot from 10 yards over her bar to safety.

The visitors continued to play some great football in the second half with a new formation allowing Daisy Willis and Ella Davis on the left, and Alex Metcalfe and Emma Willis on the right, to push forward and behind the home defence, but the equaliser arrived in bizarre fashion. Khyarna Foster lifted the ball forward from 35 yards out, and when the ball pitched well outside the far post, the spin caused it to turn like a Shane Warne leg break and sneak into the goal.

A lapse of concentration at a quick throw caught out the otherwise excellent Poppy Simpson and Susannah Shaw, allowing the home striker to slot home, before another rousing finish to the game. Sellers chased a lost cause into the corner before pulling the ball back to Foster on the edge of the area. When her rasping shot hit the far post and rolled back across the six yard box Amie Hyde was there to follow up and smash the ball home.

A fair result for great game of football played in good spirits, with no quarter given by either side.
