Scarborough Ladies FC Under-15s win 11-goal thriller at leaders NYSA
Scarborough Ladies FC Under-15s kicked off the new year with a thrilling 6-5 win at York League leaders NYSA.
After a period of absorbing early NYSA pressure, a pacy run from Isla Williams down the right beat two defenders before her cross found Chloe McArthur in the box, who neatly rounded the keeper and tapped the ball in.
It took NYSA just five minutes to hit back with an excellent shot.
McArthur restored Boro’s lead, picking up a cross-field pass from Mia Morris and beating two defenders to finish from an acute angle.
McArthur extended the lead with an individual run from halfway, beating the defence in a footrace before slotting the ball home for her hat-trick.
Slick passing led to Morris carving open NYSA’s defence with a beautifully weighted through-ball. McArthur was left one-on-one with the keeper and used a clever cutback to leave an open goal to make it 4-1 to Scarborough at the break.
Following the break several changes were made by both teams.
An NYSA free-kick at the edge of the box found its way into the goal and moments later Boro failed to deal with a neat NYSA pass, leaving their striker with a tap-in. NYSA made it 4-4 with a brilliant individual effort.
Boro regained the lead when McArthur picked up a loose pass into midfield, driving through the NYSA defence and shooting across the keeper. Just minutes later Milly Bowes gathered a throw from the left wing and powered a shot into the back of the net to put the away team 6-4 up.
NYSA reduced the lead again and this left a tense final 10 minutes but Scarborough saw out the rest of the game to maintain their unbeaten record for the season.
Scarborough coaches awarded Girl of the Game to Sophie Grey for an outstanding display in centre midfield.
